Proposal to update Forum Organization

Post by 64x » Sat Jan 01, 2011 4:16 pm

After all these months, it is quite obvious how sub-fora are being used by members. To streamline, simplify, and maybe create space for new things on this forum I wanted to propose the following:
-Move the topics on "Opening Books" and "Platforms" to "Engines and GUIs", and rename it if considered necessary.
-Move "Engines and GUIs" to the General Category
-Move the topics on "Dedicated Chess Computers" and "General Computer Hardware" to "General Topics"
-Move the topics on "Reading material" to "Everything else"
-Relocate the 2 subfora on the second "forum" category, so there is no repetition of categories

The Board index would look like this:

Code: Select all

Forum
   -Forum Rules and Announcements
   -Help, Sugestions
General
   -General Topics
   -Programming and Technical discussions
   -Tournaments and matches
      *Correspondence games
   -Engines, GUIs, Books and Platforms
   -Everything else
   -Deutsches Forum
Thoughts?

Fully agreed, the board actually looks much more inactive than it really is due to having too many subforums.

Probably Tournaments and matches and Correspondence games could be fully merged as the latter isn't very active, at Rybka forum corr games were played at the Computer Chess section just fine for a really long time without problems, a corr section was only needed when there were too many games going on.

Thanks, I think your suggestion looks good and will make these changes. It's obvious that the current organization was overly optimistic. ;)

the unify of engines and books is not a good idea, it is necessary to divide them. I prefer the presentation before. Please make a different chapter for each one, Thks

If there is more book discussion, we can easily re-split. As it was, there wasn't enough traffic to justify the extra forum.
