Oh, I finally get it, since it's the person who is getting excluded, and not the software, now, it's irrelevant if Rybka 4.1 and future versions are clean, since proof that Rybka 1.6.1 is a clone of Crafty would be enough to exclude Vas.

Personally, if someone cheats, then he is a cheater. You apparently want to take the stance "OK, so he copied Crafty, and then copied Fruit, but most of that is gone in today's version (whether or not this is true is not yet clear) and so "everything is OK."

That's an extremely odd view of justice. "OK, he killed someone 5 years ago, but today he is a model citizen, so you should not prosecute him for that old transgression?"

No, I'm saying "but IF most of that is gone in today's version, then future Rybkas should be allowed to participate".

Sure, take back his trophies, and rewrite history, I don't think it really matters, what is relevant is the future (future participation of Rybka in tourneys, otherwise this is clearly a case of "we can't beat him on the board, so we just exclude him from the tourney").

if someone clones an engine just for himself, with no commercial interest,
it is ONE thing.
if someone clones an engine and sells it... thats IMO a completely different case here.
