Shogi: Ponanza finishes 2-0 sweep of Sato (Meijin)

Post by BB+ » Tue May 23, 2017 1:08 am

Amahiko Sato beat the legendary Habu for the Meijin title last year (he is currently tied 2-2 in a best-of-7 with Akira Inaba this year), but was soundly defeated by the computer program Ponanza. The first game was April 1, and the latter just recently on May 20. I think it was realized the result was a fait accompli, as the man-vs-machine series is being ended, the second game got little publicity, and "toilet cheating" is now a more popular subject in the shogi world.
