Re: Chess for Android 2.5
to be honest... i do not need to have all my chess programs use similar kind of
chess fonts.
i can see a position although the piece set is different from another i normally use.
same with the board colors.
i had no problem watching a position with the set chess had before, of course i can
see it with the new piece-set.
but to claim that is better, or not... its IMO taste !
subjective judgement concerning taste.
but if you like it, i can live with the new sets too.
i would find it boring if all chess programs look the same, i also find it boring
when all cars look like the same, or all girls look too much similar.

Thanks for the new chess set designs.I think there are some free to use designs and like Alpha or Merida and USCF.I am quite fussy and don't like anything that is exotic and definitely don't like 3D of any sort.

Re: Chess for Android 2.5
I just released version 2.6 with a choice of three piece sets (not to worry Thorsten, the old piece set is still available as "Classic") and various board colors.

Thanks a lot! Downloading now!

Just kept playing for 20 minutes (now I can't edit my last post...). The pieces are just fantastic! Thanks a lot Aart!

Hi Aart,
I'm buying Android device (specifically for chess, ofcourse
)
I'm wondering what kind of features related to engine matches will we likely see? Tournament? Multi-engine analysis? Ability to port as many engines as possible?
Btw, I wonder if it's possible to implement the automated EPD/PGN testing option in Chess for Android! As of late, I have not done any serious tests on engine-engine matches. Mostly it's test suites (STS) -- I'm more delighted to see which puzzle(s) the engine missed/solved.
I also would like to see thousands of Tactical puzzles being ported to the application as it crucial for any player.
Thanks a lot for the work!
Best regards,
Swami

Hi Swami,Swaminathan wrote:I'm buying Android device (specifically for chess, ofcourse)

A few random preferred features to look out for when buying an Android device for chess are Android 2.2 or better, pre-installed Android Market, a decent processor (1GHz) and memory (512MB or more), and an SD card for endgame tablebases (Android engines will need to be tuned for proper probing).
As for further Chess for Android development, I never thought I would actually work on a GUI instead of just an engine

tactical or strategic test set with a single engine would not be that much more work. When you get your new device and tried Chess for Android, please feel free to drop me an email with specific requests.
Sincerely
Aart

Re: Chess for Android 2.5
its still very disapointing that we have so few engines.
if we would get MORE different engines, a tournament feature for engines would make much sense.
